Good News for MSEP 2011 Members!

MSEP 2011 members actively employed on or after January 1, 2018, will see a change in their vesting requirement! Senate Bill 62 reduces the vesting period from 10 to 5 years. This means that, like those hired before 2011, newer state employees will have earned a future retirement benefit once they have worked for the state for 5 years.

As a general state employee covered under MOSERS, your pension is calculated using your salary, a multiplier, and your credited service. In addition, as a MSEP 2011 member, you have been contributing 4% of your pre-tax pay to help fund your future retirement benefits. Once vested, even if you leave state employment, you can receive a monthly benefit for your lifetime once you are eligible to retire.

Introduction

MSEP 2011 PreRetirement Sessions

To guide you in understanding your valuable retirement benefit, MOSERS is offering PreRetirement Sessions designed for general state employees who are within 5 years of retirement eligibility and are MSEP 2011 members. You have two options to attend:

2  In-person seminars held in Jefferson City
2   Online webinars

Both sessions include information about MOSERS benefits, MO Deferred Comp options, health insurance offered by MCHCP*, and Social Security benefits. Register online to attend a session!

*May not apply to employees of certain universities or colleges, the Department of Conservation, or in all situations.

Other Benefit Providers - In addition to receiving your MOSERS defined-benefit pension, other factors may affect how much money you will have in retirement. MOSERS strongly encourages you to consult with your health insurance provider for premium costs (as a retiree) and to check with MO Deferred Comp at www.modeferredcomp.org, and the Social Security Administration at www.ssa.gov/myaccount, to generate estimates of other potential retirement income. To get an overall look at your retirement budget, it is a great idea to have those estimates with you on the day of the session.

Organizations such as Financial Planners of Missouri and others may offer seminars, the content of which may resemble PreRetirement Seminars offered by the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS). Please be advised that MOSERS does not endorse and is in no way affiliated with these organizations. MOSERS has trained educators dedicated to presenting MOSERS-specific information to our members so that they may be able to make informed decisions regarding their retirement.

In-person PreRetirement Seminars

In-person PreRetirement Seminars will be held at MOSERS, 907 Wildwood Dr., Jefferson City, from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm. A box lunch will be provided. These sessions include information about MOSERS benefits, MO Deferred Comp options, health insurance offered by MCHCP*, and Social Security benefits.

You must register to attend! Your spouse or guest is welcome to attend an in-person seminar with you (even if they are not a state employee) and must be included in your registration.

  • If your spouse or guest is also a state employee within 5 years of retirement eligibility under MSEP 2011, they should register separately (as a member) to receive their own personalized benefit estimate.
  • If your spouse or guest was hired prior to January 1, 2011, they are a member of either MSEP or MSEP 2000 and should attend a PreRetirement Seminar specifically designed for those plans. The information presented in this seminar will only apply to MSEP 2011 members.

Register Online! Log in with your MOSERS Online ID to view the MSEP 2011 PreRetirement schedule and to register for a session. Registration closes one week prior the scheduled session.
