Introduction

As a member of the MSEP 2011, while you've been working, your future retirement benefit has been building! MSEP 2011 members are those employed in a benefit-eligible position for the first time on or after January 1, 2011.

Once hired you automatically became a member in the defined benefit retirement plan under MOSERS. A defined benefit (DB) plan, sometimes known as a traditional pension, is not an individual retirement account, but one based on a retirement formula defined by law. For general state employees covered under MOSERS, your pension is calculated using your salary, a multiplier and service. In addition, you have been contributing 4% of your pre-tax pay to help fund your future retirement benefits. Once vested, even if you leave state employment, you can receive a monthly benefit for your lifetime once you are eligible to retire.

To guide you in understanding your valuable retirement benefit, MOSERS is offering live online webinars to MSEP 2011 members who are within five years of retirement eligibility. Be prepared to make some key decisions and answer some very important questions. Do you know what your benefit payment will be? Have you thought about your health, inflation, how long you might live, the people in your life, other costs during retirement, and income from different sources? How much is enough?

To help you build your retirement income even further, in addition to the live portion presented by MOSERS, the webinar will include links to pre-recorded sessions provided by:

  • MO Deferred Comp
  • Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan and
  • Social Security Administration

Organizations such as Financial Planners of Missouri and others may offer seminars, the content of which may resemble PreRetirement seminars offered by the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS). Please be advised that MOSERS does not endorse and is in no way affiliated with these organizations. MOSERS has trained educators dedicated to presenting MOSERS-specific information to our members so that they may be able to make informed decisions regarding their retirement.

MSEP 2011 PreRetirement Online Webinars

For 2017, online webinars will be held on a quarterly basis and are scheduled for March 16, June 20, September 7, and December 12. The webinars will be from 9:30 am – 11:00 am and will be followed by an open Q & A session until 11:15 am.

During the registration process, you must select the date (from the drop-down menu) of the webinar you wish to attend. In addition to your name and contact information, you will also need to provide your date of birth and your anticipated date of retirement, indicate your marital status and if married, provide your spouse’s date of birth (used to calculate reduction for joint & survivor options; reductions are based on age difference between retiree and spouse). Enrollment for the webinars is free. To enhance the webinar experience, MOSERS will mail a personal benefit estimate and MSEP 2011 Reference Book to each member who has registered to attend an upcoming webinar. To ensure receipt of these documents prior to the webinar, please register at least ten business days prior to the date of the webinar selected. If not registered within ten business days of the webinar, registrants are still permitted to attend; however, they will be responsible for generating their own Benefit Estimate online and may download a copy of the MSEP 2011 Reference Book.

In addition to the live portion presented by MOSERS, the webinar will include links to the following pre-recorded sessions provided by:

These pre-recorded sessions will be available for you to watch after the live portion or later at your convenience.
