A Guide to the Two-Step Retirement Process
Use the Retirement Guide to begin the two-step retirement process. It provides a summary of the process and is full of useful tips designed to make your retirement experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible. Have a copy handy for reference as you complete each form.
Before You Begin...
Get a Smart Start – Within the guide is a list of information you will need to have readily available as you complete the MOSERS forms.
Retirement Checklist – When preparing for retirement, MOSERS is not the only benefit administrator you will need to contact. As a state employee, you receive a comprehensive benefit package that is administered by various providers. Use the Destination Retirement checklist to coordinate your overall retirement process.
The retirement process consists of two steps and involves completing several important forms. This process will allow MOSERS to provide you with pertinent information needed to make informed decisions regarding your retirement benefit payment.
Due Dates – Both your retirement application and election form must be received by MOSERS according to the due dates coinciding with your date of retirement. If you do not submit these forms by their deadline, your retirement benefit will be delayed.
When You're Ready…
We encourage you to complete the retirement process online - it's fast, easy and efficient. Login to your Member Homepage using your MOSERS Online ID and password, then click on the Retire Online tab. This streamlined process will lead you through all the forms in the two-step retirement process. You will be able to track your progress and see checkmarks next to each form you have submitted. You are not required to complete both steps all at once--you can return later, if you wish.
If you choose not to retire online, you may request a personalized Retirement Application from a benefit counselor. Once MOSERS receives your Retirement Application and the initial forms you submit for Step 1, we will prepare and mail a Retirement Election Form, a BackDROP Distribution Form (if applicable) and benefit estimate. Step 2 of the retirement process involves completion and submission of your Retirement Election Form and the BackDROP Distribution Form (if applicable).
