Survivor Benefit Deadline for Same-Sex Spouses
[Posted on 07/06/2015 at 8:03 AM]
As a result of a policy change by the MOSERS Board of Trustees on October 27, 2014, MOSERS members have been able to elect a lifetime survivor benefit at retirement for their same-sex spouse to whom they were legally married in another state. Due to this action, retirees were given a one year window in which to “pop-down” their benefit to provide a future survivor benefit.
October 27, 2015, is quickly approaching and will be one year since the date the board took action to allow survivor benefits for same-sex spouses. If you think you might be eligible for this election, please contact MOSERS at firstname.lastname@example.org or (800) 827-1063.
