Antwaun Smith Re-elected Chairman of the MOSERS Board

Antwaun Smith, co-founder of the Smith Law Office, based in St. Joseph and Kansas City, has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS) in Jefferson City.
Mr. Smith serves on the MOSERS board as one of two members appointed by Governor Jay Nixon. He began his term on August 10, 2011 and was elected chairman in 2013 and 2014. He was re-elected as chairman at the January 15, 2015 meeting of the board.
MOSERS is a public employee retirement system managing over $9 billion in assets. The system administers retirement, long-term disability, life insurance, and deferred compensation benefits for approximately 113,000 present and former state employees and their beneficiaries.
The MOSERS Board of Trustees, chaired by Mr. Smith, has overall responsibility for oversight of the management of system assets, as well as administration of the system’s benefit programs. The board provides strategic leadership for the organization and has broad authority for the organizational governance of the system.
In Mr. Smith’s law practice, he represents individuals who have been physically injured and businesses that have suffered financial injury. He received both his B.A. (Religious Studies) and J.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also earned an M.B.A. degree from Oxford University while studying there on a Rhodes Scholarship.
