Reemployment
If you retire and later return to work in a benefit eligible position
covered by MOSERS or the MoDOT and Patrol Employees' Retirement System (MPERS), your retirement benefit will be stopped.
Your employer determines if you are working in a benefit eligible position.
Benefit Eligible Position
A benefit eligible position is one that normally requires the performance
of duties during not less than 1,040 hours per year. If you return to
work for the state of Missouri in a benefit eligible position:
- Your monthly retirement benefit from MOSERS stops for any month
during which you are actively employed in that position.
- You will accrue additional service credit for any time worked after
you retire (once you have been reemployed for a minimum of 12 continuous months).
When you retire again, your benefit will be equal to the monthly benefit
you were receiving when your benefit payment was stopped plus
an additional monthly benefit for the service earned during your reemployment.
Non Benefit Eligible Position
Working for the state in a position that is not deemed benefit eligible
does not have any impact on your eligibility to continue receiving a
retirement benefit. You may work in that position and receive a retirement
benefit from MOSERS.
MPERS
MSEP retirees will not receive additional service credit or additional retirement benefits for the period of service while reemployed under MPERS in a benefit eligible position.
MSEP 2000 retirees will receive additional service credit and monthly retirement benefits for the period of service while reemployed under MPERS in a benefit eligible position (once you have been reemployed for a minimum of 12 continuous months).
University of Missouri Retirement System
You may receive a retirement benefit from MOSERS and work in a position
covered by the University of Missouri Retirement System at the same
time. Your monthly benefit from MOSERS will not stop
while you are working at the University of Missouri.
